A Message from Garry Hynes

In our first programme in July 1975, I quoted lines from Camino Real by Tennessee Williams – “Make voyages! Attempt them… there’s nothing else”. Seven years later we literally did that by making our first visit to Inis Meáin (one of the Aran Islands) in 1982 beginning a remarkable relationship with the island including a visit in 2005 to present DruidSynge. Our relationship with Inis Meáin continued in 2011 with the first production ever on the island of Martin McDonagh’s, The Cripple of Inishmaan.

From the very beginning Druid has been lucky in the friends we have gathered around us. In those early years, people supported us not only by coming to see our shows but by giving to us both financially and in other ways too numerous to mention. When we started a formal Friends scheme in 2001 many more of you took the opportunity to help Druid in a more structured way and we thank those of you who continue to support us today.

Druid wants to do more and we know our audiences want us to do more. And every time you make a contribution to Druid by buying a ticket for a show or donating to our Friends Scheme it helps us do just that.

If you believe in what we do and if you believe as passionately as we do in the creation of world-class theatre in Galway, become a Friend. And if you believe that no one should be denied access to world-class theatre, then help us tour, become a Friend. And if you believe that when Druid tours internationally we are flying the flag for Galway and Ireland, help us do more, become a Friend.

With your help, Druid can take our audiences, our actors and our plays on bold new voyages – will you come on board?
