Nominations for Druid in Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards

The Irish Times Irish Theatre award nominations were announced on Saturday January 12th, 2012. You can read the shortlist here.

The awards celebrate theatre in Ireland and the shortlist represents the best productions, writing, acting, directing and design in 2011.

Druid would like to congratulate all the nominees across the award categories. A special congrats to the actors who were nominated for Druid productions.

Best Actress Nomination – Aisling O’Sullivan for Big Maggie

Aisling O’Sullivan for her role as Maggie Polpin in Big Maggie by John B Keane, directed by Garry Hynes.


Best Supporting Actor Nomination – John Olohan for Big Maggie

John Olohan for his role as Byrne in Big Maggie by John B Keane, directed by Garry Hynes.


Best Supporting Actress Nomination – Dearbhla Molloy & Ingrid Craigie for The Cripple of Inishmaan

Ingrid Craigie and Dearbhla Molloy for their roles as Kate and Eileen in The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh, directed by Garry Hynes.


Druid would also like to congratulate the following nominees:

Best Actress nomination – Charlie Murphy (currently playing the role of Katie in Druid’s production of Big Maggie by John B Keane, directed by Garry Hynes) for her role as Eliza in Pygmalion, written by George Bernard Shaw, directed by Annabelle Comyn for the Abbey Theatre.

Best Actress nomination – Marie Mullen (Druid co-founder) for her role as Woman in Testament, written by Colm Tóibín, directed by Garry Hynes for Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival and Landmark Productions.

Judges’s Special award nomination – Val Sherlock for consistent excellence in hair and make-up for Irish theatre. Val has worked extensively in theatres across Ireland and has worked for many years with Druid.
