Donagh O'Donoghue RIP

Druid mourns the passing of its former Chairman and lifelong friend, Donagh O’Donoghue.

A stalwart in the Galway business community, Donagh played a transformational role in the development of Druid throughout his many years of involvement.

‘From initially making space available to our fledging company in 1979 to the gifting of the building in 1996, Donagh acted as a close and trusted confidant, both as Chairman and to me personally. Without his vision and support, I’m not sure Druid would be here today.’
Druid’s Artistic Director, Garry Hynes

The opening of the O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance in NUI Galway in April 2017 by President Michael D. Higgins was another special occasion that marked his indelible contribution to the city of Galway and its artists and audiences. It’s within the walls of these two buildings in his beloved Galway that his life and spirit will continue to be celebrated.

He was a generous man with a noble spirit and great energy and ambition. We will feel his loss keenly.

Our thoughts are with Marcia, Gillian, Denise, Peter, Andrew and John and the O’Donoghue family.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
