Druid Presents a Season of New Work at the Mick Lally Theatre

The Mick Lally Theatre on Druid Lane will be a hub of new work during this year's Galway International Arts Festival with 4 new plays, 4 directors and over a dozen actors presenting several daily performances, over 17 days.

Druid proudly presents two world premieres: Furniture by Sonya Kelly (The Wheelchair On My Face; How to Keep An Alien) and Shelter the professional debut from playwright Cristín Kehoe. Both plays received staged readings in 2016 and 2017 respectively as part of the Druid Debut process. The plays are stories of our time, told with humour and sensitivity, exploring opposite ends of the spectrum of modern Ireland: from people who covet possessions to people who are homeless and disenfranchised.

In June we will announce two Druid Debut titles. The Druid Debuts will take place on Friday 20th & Friday 27th July.

‘These two young women, Sonya Kelly and Cristín Kehoe, are part of an exciting new wave in Irish writing and I'm delighted that Druid is premiering their plays in repertoire, where audiences will be able to see both productions in one day. Add to the mix the great talent that has come on board with Cathal Cleary and Oonagh Murphy as directors, and a cast of over a dozen actors, including members of the Druid Ensemble, and I think the MLT is going to be fizzing with excitement during the Festival.’- Artistic Director, Garry Hynes
