The Shaughraun

By Dion Boucicault
Directed by Garry Hynes

With its wild and intricate plot, The Shaughraun is an incredible mixture of whirlwind melodrama and merry Celtic moonshine, including a Fenian rebel on the run,a police spy in league with the British soldiery, separated loves, secret letters, a brave Irish priest, a forlorn Irish mother, a series of multiple escapes over bogs and cliffs, gunshots and falling bodies, and an inexhaustible supply of tricks.

The most unusual and indeed the most exciting production of the year so far..a joyous romp acted with uncommon zest
Evening Herald
