McDonogh Capital Investments announced as sponsor of Druid’s 50th anniversary celebrations
Druid has announced a new partnership with McDonogh Capital Investments as sponsor of its 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025, which include a sold-out double bill of Synge’s Riders to the Sea and Shakespeare’s Macbeth in Galway this July, followed by a Dublin transfer of Macbeth and a New York transfer of Beckett’s Endgame later this year.
McDonogh Capital Investments is a successful investment and property company with a portfolio that extends to mainland Europe and beyond. The company is a subsidiary of Thomas McDonogh & Sons Limited, a household name in Galway for over 150 years.
This significant financial investment in the region’s cultural life is a partnership of two companies with a shared legacy, firm roots in Galway, and international success in their respective fields. This is not of course the first time McDonogh have supported Druid over the course of the theatre company’s fifty-year history. Druid’s home in Galway, The Mick Lally Theatre, was once a McDonogh storehouse, and the company handed the keys of the building to Druid in 1979 for a peppercorn rent and later donated the property in full. By gifting Druid its permanent home in 1979, McDonogh not only ensured Druid’s survival but played a defining role in Galway’s emergence as a vibrant cultural city and national powerhouse.
Garry Hynes, Druid’s Artistic Director: ‘On behalf of all the Druids, I want to extend my deepest thanks to McDonogh for their continued support of and belief in what we do. It’s very special that McDonogh are helping us to celebrate our 50th anniversary. I don’t believe that we would have reached this milestone without their incredible investment in us back when we were starting out in the 1970s.’
Tom McDonogh, CEO of McDonogh Capital Investments: ‘McDonogh Capital Investments are extremely proud of our roots here in the West of Ireland, and in our partnership with Druid, we celebrate the past and the present, and the very best of our two iconic brands: local, regional, national – and international.’
Druid gratefully acknowledges the generous support it receives from all of its funders – in particular the Arts Council, Smurfit Westrock, University of Galway, Galway City Council, and our community of Druid Friends and Supporters around Ireland and the world.
