Coole Park Poetry Series (Dec 2020)

A series of filmed poems recorded in Coole Park during DruidGregory.

A collaboration between Druid and the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation.

DruidGregory, a Galway 2020 commission, opened in Coole Park, the home of Lady Augusta Gregory, on the 16th September.

In partnership with the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation, a poetry series was commissioned as part of the artistic conversation between the past and present. This poetry series involved poets of different cultural backgrounds living in Ireland, reading both their own work and the work of poets associated with Coole Park, including Lady Gregory, WB Yeats and JM Synge. These readings were filmed in the grounds of Coole Park during performances of DruidGregory.

The series is presented in a free exhibition in The Mick Lally Theatre in Galway from December 10th to 19th, 10am to 7pm. The theatre has been adapted to a one-way system so that the films, each 2-3 minutes in length, can be viewed safely in a controlled gallery space, and can be enjoyed individually or as a complete 20 minute film.

The poets filmed were Seán Hewitt, Doireann Ní Ghríofa, FeliSpeaks, Evgeny Shtorn and ATMOS Collective. Films by Matthew Thompson with music by Gerry Horan.

The films will be released individually on-line during December and January.
