In a first for an Irish theatre company, Druid’s production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, in a version by Tom Murphy, was live streamed to cinemas direct from the Black Box Theatre, Galway.
The Cherry Orchard was seen live in cinemas across Ireland and the UK on Thursday 5 March at 7pm, this will be followed by a year-long programme of live-recorded showings internationally.
Bringing together one of the world’s great classic plays with one of Ireland’s greatest writers, Druid present Tom Murphy’s version of Chekhov’s masterpiece The Cherry Orchard at Black Box Theatre, Galway and Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin. A play about land, legacy, and the struggle between tradition and change, this will be the first major production of Tom Murphy’s work since his death in 2018.
