Lady Gregory, colourised by John Breslin (Old Ireland in Colour).
Free educational resources for primary students that celebrate the extraordinary Galway writer, Lady Gregory.
In 2020, DruidGregory was performed in the magic fields, woods and gardens of Coole Park in a tribute to, and an animation of, the life and works of Galway’s Augusta Lady Gregory.
DruidGregory included five of Lady Gregory’s one-act plays, performed by a company of 12 actors and musicians, and directed by Garry Hynes. The production then toured around Galway county.
These primary school educational resources were developed in response to DruidGregory, to introduce Lady Gregory to Galway schoolchildren.
Who is Lady Gregory?
An educational video that takes students on a journey around Lady Gregory’s home in Galway, Coole Park, and introduces them to who Lady Gregory was and what she achieved. The video also introduces the themes explored in the below activity sheets.
Inspired by Lady Gregory: celebrating the creativity of the children of Galway
We invited schools in Galway city and county to send us their students’ responses to the Creative Activities below. We selected a number of the students’ responses to be read to camera by Druid actors Marie Mullen and John Olohan in a special video to celebrate the creative writing and creative potential of the children of Galway. Hopefully, it will inspire the next generation of Galway literary giants!
These Lady Gregory Activity Sheets are divided by class groupings, but you are welcome to pick and choose which activities would be most appropriate for your students.
These Creative Activities encourage students to be inspired by Lady Gregory and to get creative themselves.
This pack offers further information to teachers about these educational resources and offers suggestions for further engagement and extended learning opportunities.
